Dining: Breadwinners
And the winner is...
Vibe: Breadwinners has the feel of a corner café and bakery, much like the one you would frequent if you lived in New York, just to pick up a fresh loaf every other day. The atmosphere is laid back, but with a little sophistication from Europe and a little hustle and bustle from the East Coast combined. The breads are fresh and the pastries are exquisite, and brunch beckons with treats like Normandy French toast. Why it’s tot-friendly: The promise of pastries galore will keep them in their seats until the end. And, scrambles — or Breadwinners’ version of custom scrambled eggs with toppings thrown in, will keep everyone happy. It’s also a great way to sneak veggies in under a
pile of eggs and cheese. Be sure to try: Cheese-hungry little ones will be satisfied by Pomme de Terre casseroles, which combine potatoes and other ingredients in varieties like Mexican, Bayou Sausage and Hamptons (chicken, asparagus, hollandaise sauce). Good to know: Breadwinners does not accept reservations for brunch, so be prepared to wait. Breadwinners suggests biding your time with a Bellini; the kids can peruse the bakery and work up an appetite. Best times to go with kids: Brunch is served until 4pm on Saturdays and 3pm on Sundays, so your family can feel free to take it easy, be lazy, take in a soccer game and know you’ll be right on time for brunch whenever you’re ready.
